Desktop Anywhere is both a virtual office and a virtual network.
It lets you work remotely thanks to a standard "remote desktop" tool installed on any computer operating under Windows (PC). This tool is also configurable quickly and free of charge for Mac (Apple).
The Desktop Anywhere environment is self-contained and has its own security features, like anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spam. It also allows you to use Microsoft Office and, potentially, Microsoft Exchange Server according to the subscription option chosen.
One of the essential advantages of Desktop Anywhere is the migration and integration of your data and personal programs* to your new virtual work environment. In fact, Desktop Anywhere is not just a storage space available to users - it goes further by offering a personalised platform.
Furthermore, each of the Desktop Anywhere solutions includes technical support, which should reassure any novice when it comes to Cloud Computing.
How does it work in practical terms?
The shortcut on your physical computer establishes a connection with the virtual office over the Internet. The Desktop Anywhere connection window is displayed on the screen and asks you to identify yourself.
Once you are connected, you will see your virtual office and work with the latest versions of Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint for example. You can access files stored in the remote storage space that has been allocated to you. What is more, you can print remotely stored documents on a local printer.
Depending on the subscription package chosen, you can send messages from your personal e-mail address or use your company's domain name hosted in Microsoft Exchange Server (allows calendars to be shared and messages to be received on a mobile phone or PDA thanks to the push mail function).
Data backups are carried out daily without any intervention on your part and the archive function allows you to recover older versions of your data.
People who travel can access their virtual office at any time, from anywhere in the world, as long as they have an Internet connection (using a 3G card or through an RDP-compatible Wi-Fi connection in a hotel).
*personal programs: any software for which the Customer states and guarantees possession of a licence, usage right and/or legitimate property rights according to its envisaged use, for the period that the Desktop Anywhere contract is valid.
